Millstreet Country Park is a protector and promoter of these animals. Habitats such as lake, hedgerow, treeline and meadow are prime spots for these species to shelter and hunt. Recently a bat walk of the upper lake was completed yielding four of the ten Irish species of bat recorded throughout the evening. These were;
Leisler’s Bat Nyctalus leisleri (Meadow and Lake)
Daubenton’s Bat Myotis daubentonii (Waterway Bat)
Common Pipistrelle Pipistrellus pipistrellus (edge habitat –hedgerow, treeline, lake, road, meadow, bogs)

All Irish bat species are protected by European Law under the 1999 European Union Habitats Directive.
